Another Update and A Heads Up
In case any of you are following the 3 patients I mentioned in my entry on 6/25 - patients awaiting the results of their RIT treatments - Mort's last entry entitled "Hooray" provides the update for the second patient. We are thrilled that Bexxar succeeded again and that the patient avoided successive chemotherapy or a transplant - which she would have had if she had taken the course her doctor wanted her to take. Instead, she pursued RIT by consulting an expert at a university who then consulted with her local oncologist.
In my entry on 7/2, I mentioned a couple of executives who had tackled lymphoma the same way they tackled problems within their own companies. One is half way through treatment using a combination of fludarabine and Zevalin as front line therapy. The other was in the process of making a decision, and he has now made it: he enrolled in a clinical trial using Bexxar as front line therapy. The timing couldn't have been better because the trial closed last week, but after all the research he did and all the consultations he had with some of the top lymphoma experts in the country, he believes that RIT promises to give him the best chance for the longest, most durable remission. He'll have the treatment 4 to 6 weeks from now.
Finally, I suspect that RIT will be in the news again this week. A reporter for the NY Times is working on a story which could be published as early as today. I know about this because I was interviewed. I'll post a link to the story when it is published.
Happy Monday to all!
Betsy
