A Personal Belief
Cancer has made quite a bit of political news lately. Some have maligned John and Elizabeth Edwards for staying in the race even as she battles her recurrent cancer. And some have questioned Senator Fred Thompson after he announced that he has lymphoma and is considering running for president.
My own personal belief is that cancer does not discriminate between red or blue, young or old, black or white, rich or poor. In one way or another, cancer has or will touch every man, woman and child in America. Whether Fred Thompson and John Edwards are Democrats, Republicans, Independents or Libertarians makes no difference. They are not letting cancer stand in the way of accomplishing their goals. They are not giving up or giving in to cancer, but continuing to live their lives. They are reminders that life isn't always fair, but it's much too short for long pity parties.
No, life doesn't always come tied with a bow - but it is a gift to appreciate each and every day.
